COMMUNITIES of Sanquhar and Kirkconnel will mark the 100th anniversary of World War I ending on Sunday, November 11.

In Sanquhar, a parade will leave from St Mary’s Street at around 10.30am and make its way to the new war memorial in the town.

As well as the wreath laying, there will be a dedication ceremony at the memorial from 11am.

Kirkconnel will pay its respects at the same time, leaving the KOSD Hall at 10.30am with a service at 11am by the war memorial.

Nearby in Mennock there will be a service at the war memorial at 3pm.

Mennock holds the title of The Bravest Village because of the number of men killed in the war in proportion to its population.

It will be a poignant moment when the residents remember those who gave their lives.
