A BURNT-OUT car has been discovered less than three miles from where a man was shot in Shettleston.

Cops say the black Renault Megane is significant to their investigation into the attempted murder of 42-year-old Brian McGloin. The car was found burnt out in Ruchazie several days after the shooting.

We previously reported that two masked men forced their way into a flat in Wellshot Road and shot the victim last Saturday.

He is in a serious but stable condition at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

Officers have been carrying out significant enquiries since then, which have included checking CCTV and speaking to local residents in an effort to try to identify who was responsible for the shooting.

Detective Inspector John Morrison, who is leading this investigation, said: "Our enquiries so far have identified a car which we believe may be significant to the enquiry was found burnt-out on Tuesday, October 16 at Dunnottar Street, Ruchazie.

“The vehicle is an old style Renault Megane, black in colour, with five doors and a 57 plate. Where it was found is less than three miles from where the 42-year-old man was shot within his home in Wellshot Road.

“What we know so far, is that the vehicle was parked in the Dunnottar Street area over the weekend of 14th and 15th October before being found burnt out by emergency services on Tuesday, October 16. The vehicle will now be subject of rigorous forensic tests which should hopefully assist us with our ongoing enquiry.

“I would be very keen to speak to anyone in the local area who may have seen this vehicle in the area. Did you see any of the occupants and could you provide information to us which might help us identify those responsible? Any motorists in the area who may have dashcam footage are also asked to contact us.

“We continue to experience a lack of information being provided to us by the public which is very disappointing. However, we are determined to find those people responsible for this violent attack. If you have any information, please be aware you do not have to pass it directly to police, you can do so via Crimestoppers. Please don’t assume the information you have might not be useful, let us be the judge of that.

“However, if you call the police with information, we do have mechanisms in place to protect you, so please do not hesitate to contact us.

"We know that there are people out there who have information that would assist with our enquiry, and we would urge them to pass that information."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via 101 quoting reference number 3725 of 13 October 2018. Alternatively please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, where information can be passed in confidence.

Detectives will also revisit the scene of the shooting one week on in an effort to speak to people who frequent the area of Wellshot Road and Dunnottar Street, Ruchazie.
