RUTHLESS crooks managed to scam almost £50,000 from two pensioners.

The con artists used both a phone call and a fake email to swindle the OAPs, both aged 72, one claiming to be from their bank to place money into a fake account - and the other from their own son.

PC Craig Marshall , Community Safety Officer at Cumnock Police, said: “These are professional criminals and ruthless in what they do.

“We would always advise anyone receiving such a call not to move money.

“A genuine bank or organisation will never contact you out of the blue to ask for your PIN, password or to move money to another account.”
