NHS Ayrshire and Arran is set to have over £40m in debt written off as part of a “new deal” for health boards.
Health secretary Jeane Freeman announced a new three-year budgetary cycle that will begin in 2019-20 on Thursday, October 4.
The move came just days after the Auditor General for Scotland released a damming report into the health board’s finances.
NHS Ayrshire and Arran had required £23m in loan funding – known as brokerage – from the Scottish Government to break even in 2017-18.
