STUDENTS at Ayrshire College have been given a unique chance to experience being elderly.
The social services students were introduced to a new state-of-the-art ageing suit which simulates the difficulties that elderly people may face.
Drongan’s Ann Fleming, an HNC social services student, said: “Wearing the suit gave me a really good insight into ageing or recovering from a stroke. I would like to work in care management so it’s really important for me to empathise with clients.”
It is hoped that the new technology will help students develop a better understanding of the how hard someone in their care may find performing everyday tasks.
Health and social care lecturer, Joe Gallacher said: “The ageing suit greatly enhances an important part of the curriculum.”
