FIREFIGHTERS in Sanquhar have thanked a local employer for allowing them to keep the community safe.

Three of the retained crew at Sanquhar work for Brown Brothers – a meat wholesaler in Kelloholm – as their primary employment and the company has been presented with a plaque as a thank you from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Station manager Colin Wallace explained the reason for the presentation: “Having taken on the role of district station manager in April 2018, it became immediately clear that – with three key employees at Sanquhar working at Brown Brothers as their primary employer – the company was playing an essential role in ensuring operational cover is maintained within the local area.

“Brown Brothers permit these retained fire fighters to attend incidents away from their primary employment to assist the local community when they are most in need,

“This is very much appreciated by myself, the station and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

“The presentation of the plaque was a token of gratitude from the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service for Brown Brothers continuing their support to Sanquhar local community fire station”

Crew manager Darren Shaw along with firefighters Wayne Houston and Vilimoni Satala work for the firm whose managing director Lee Godfrey was presented with the plaque.
