STAIR Community Association have celebrated the reopening of the community centre following the completion of refurbishment works earlier this month.
A funding boost of almost £50,000 from the SUEZ Communities Trust was needed to improve the toilet and entrance facilities alongside funding from the Robertson Trust with other donors.
The community and members of the wider public were invited in to have a look at the completed works on Ayrshire’s Doors Open Day as the building is now fully accessible with toilets fit for purpose.
Ellen Dunlop, a retired committee member of the association, was invited to cut the ribbon to declare the new facilities open.
Jim Hunter, with his wife Nan, demonstrated using the external platform lift and later the internal platform lift.
Councillor John Bell said the centre was “a tremendous asset, congratulations to all involved.”
Marek Gordon, chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust, added: “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund, which encourages operators to provide contributions to bodies who pass the funds onto community and environmental projects. We were delighted to offer funding to Stair Community Association.”
