DANGEROUS drivers were targeted in an unannounced purge in the Cumnock area.
In one of the worst incidents, a heavy goods vehicle driver was stopped for allegedly breaking the speed limit in a 30mph zone in Ayr Road.
The 44-year-old man was caught at 3.20pm on July 23 and has been reported to the fiscal.
Another four similar offences were observed by officers over a 48-hour period, including a 61-year-old man who allegedly caused a head-on collision on the A76 Kilmarnock Road in Mauchline.
It happened during rush hour, at 5.15pm on July 24. Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact PC Gardener at Cumnock Police.
Earlier that day, a 25-year-old was pulled in after driving at more than 40mph outside East Ayrshire Community Hospital at 3.20pm — he has been reported to the fiscal in connection with the allegation.
On July 25, another two alleged driving offences, in connection with having no insurance, led to similar reports being sent.
At 1pm, a 21-year-old man was stopped in Barony Road, Auchinleck as was a 34-year-old man in Boreland Road, Cumnock, who was also allegedly driving carelessly.
