More than 500 people attended two open days at one of the largest manufacturing employers in East Ayrshire, EGGER’s Barony site in Auchinleck.

The wood-based materials manufacturer welcomed along the community to find out more about its operations — and to celebrate 20 years of production at the site.

The free family-friendly open days were organised with health and safety as a top priority at the plant, which employs 130 people and where production lines run every day of the year.

Visitors were able to chat to those who work at the site and a land train also provided the opportunity to go behind the scenes and find out how the company’s chipboard is made. Colleagues from across EGGER (UK) Limited were also there, including those working in the company’s forestry and wood recycling subsidiaries.

A range of family friendly activities were on offer, including the chance to learn about excavators and have a go in a digger, provided by the award-winning Dig-a-Day Experience, below.

Young visitors were also able to try out a John Deere harvesting simulator to understand more about working life in a forest.

“We were delighted to welcome the local community to our Auchinleck site to find out more about what we do, and enjoy a host of family activities,” said Heiko Lichtblau, the firm’s technical director.
