ANOTHER glittering charity fundraiser has been arranged by Dalmellington’s Lorna Dempsey.

Her quest to raise money for Cancer Research UK takes her Butterfly Ball to Ayr Racecourse on Saturday, April 28.

Billed as a ‘night of Bollywood glamour’, tickets are on sale now for Lorna’s latest in a series of Butterfly Events.

Tickets are on sale by e-mailing butterflyevents2006@gmail.com or call 07796 691349.

Before that, a slightly less glamorous event is taking place on Sunday, February 25 — The Hillbilly 10k.

Lorna said: “It is a 10k race across stunning scenery of Craigengillan Estate near Dalmellington, Ayrshire. We would be delighted if people could raise funds for our charity Cancer Research UK.

“This event has been fully sponsored by Barry Whalen Funeral Director, while goody bags will be sponsored by our local Co-op store. We are also supported by Avenue Marketing.”

Start time is 11am from Doon Valley Leisure Centre, Ayr Road, Dalmellington, with registration open on the day from 9am until 20 minutes before competitors get going.

This will be followed by a race briefing. There will be changing and shower facilities available as well as lockers.

A spokesman for the race organisers, Entry Central, added; “The views this run has to offer are fantastic. Feel free to bring your family along to enjoy a lovely walk in the estate afterwards. Normal trainers are good, trail are better, but don’t wear spikes “There will be a free buffet at the end for all competitors and everyone will also receive a little memento for taking part.

“There will also be prizes for various top spots including the sought-after titles, 1st Local Male and Female Claim to Fame.”

Butterfly Events have been enjoying fun in aid of Cancer Research UK since 2007 after Lorna started fundraising following the death of a close friend to breast cancer.

She said: “To date, our voluntary committee, have raised a fabulous £370,000, which is helping fund ongoing research into all types of Cancer in the UK.

“Butterfly Events aims are to organize fun, exciting, affordable events for everyday people whilst raising much needed funds for this fantastic charity and highlighting the importance of cancer awareness.”
