OVER 300 people have taken to Facebook to mourn the loss of the popular coffee shop and ice cream parlour Catrine House.

The business closed its doors for the last time on Christmas Eve as the owners plan to turn the log cabin into a holiday chalet.

Julie Crooks summed up how most people felt as she commented: “Aw this is really sad. It was a lovely place to take the kids. I wish the owners well with their new venture.”

Sharon R added: “Such a shame,” and Leanne Malcolm said: “Oh no, that’s such a shame!”

A big fan of their homemade desserts, Steffi Bain said: “Oh no, where will we get the best sticky toffee pudding now?”

Laura Muir added: “Oh no! Love Catrine House.”

Sandra Murdoch was very disappointed and said: “That’s rubbish. Surely can’t be cos it’s not making a profit. Always busy!”

Also disappointed was Heather McEwan. She said: “He would have been smarter to keep the coffee shop/ice cream parlour and build the holiday lodges!

“He had a good wee business going l hope he does not live to regret closing a booming business.

“Such a shame for those who worked there losing their jobs on Christmas Eve.”

Scott McCall was a fan of the ice cream parlour. He commented: “No more ice cream on the road down!”

Emma Wemyss added: “Jeezo, that’s a shocker,” and Rosemary Gilmour said: “That’s a shame it was a great place to go too! Will be missed.”

Helen Roberts said: “Sad, it was a great family place,” and Andy McMath joked: “Oh well, at least we can get a chalet trip...all the way to Catrine!”

Angela Marshall said: “Not being local, I have only been there the once and was looking forward to going back sometime too.”

It is understood that the closure resulted in the loss of around 10 jobs.

Located on the River Ayr Way just off Catrine Junction on the A76 between Mauchline and Auchinleck, the popular Catrine House had expanded in recent years building on the success of its award-winning ice cream and homemade cakes.

Selling local produce, the business also diversified into the farming sector with its own prize winning herd of pedigree Ayrshire Cows.
