DALMELLINGTON’S Lorna Dempsey has taken fundraising to another level.

But even she was stunned at the amount that her latest venture raised — an amazing £9,000 from a Birdie Brunch which took place at Trump Turnberry.

Lorna has been raising money since she organised an event in aid of Cancer Research UK after a close friend passed away. Over the years, she has continued to organise what has become known as Butterfly Events.

Birdie Brunch was a slight deviation from the usual but the end result was the same — as well as marking the 10th anniversary of Butterfly Events.

A donation station collected 86 handbags with a value of £559.50 and jewellery worth £712, which will be sold in one of the charity’s shops to add to the total.

Several retailers also set up stall at Birdie Brunch with a wide variety of goods on sale including hand-crafted greetings cards, Butterfly 2018 diaries, clothing specialists, and more.

As well as the delicious lunch, there was entertainment, music, raffles and even a game of Birdie Brunch Bingo.

Throw in an envelope draw, tombola and silent auction to make for a good day out.

Special guest was Isobel Rutter, an award-winning speaker, actress and playwright, who survived breast cancer three times. Singer Barbara Bryceland, a former contestant on reality TV show The Voice, also performed at the event.

Lorna said: “I have no words for how thrilled and proud I am to be organising our events with and for the best supporters ever, who raised £9,000 for Cancer Research UK.”
