FIRE crews from across Ayrshire were needed to help extinguish a blaze that broke out in a bakery in New Cumnock early on Monday morning.
Appliances from as far away as Kilmarnock, Ayr and Dreghorn were called to the scene after local crews from Cumnock and New Cumnock arrived to a “well-developed” fire within Afton Bakery at Afton Bridgend.
The substantial fire, which is thought to have been caused by an electrical fault, was brought under control but firefighters remained at the site throughout the night to ensure no fire spread.
A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “On arrival crews found a well-developed fire within the a bake house and attached shop. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used main jets to bring the fire under control and operations continued through the night.”
