THE large turnout of motoring enthusiasts who braved heavy rain showers at the Kames Classic Car Show at Muirkirk on Sunday were rewarded with a fine selection of beautiful vehicles ranging from the pre-war period to the very latest in upmarket models like the Alfa Romeo 4C of Haley Muir from Catrine.

A pessimistic weather forecast led to a number of last-minute withdrawals, but the general opinion was of standards being on a par with previous years, as was the spectator attendance with an overflow car park having to be brought into play. This is the third successive year East Ayrshire Car Club have encountered inclement weather for their annual exhibition.

Family cars from a bygone age brought back fond memories, but there was lots of glamour in the form of several E type Jaguars, Lotus Elans, Bentleys, Morgans and a rare Marcos GT.

Away from the exotic machinery, Muirkirk Community Council laid on several marquees displaying a wide range of crafts and local produce.

The tents were donated and erected by local businessman Sean Maguire.

The overall winner was a 1967 Ford Lotus Cortina entered by Mr A Queen from Dumfries who, like all 18 class winners, was presented with a trophy by local MP Alan Brown.
