EARLYBIRDS in New Cumnock will catch a sight to behold if they are in the Afton Road area.
Starting from Tuesday, July 18, huge blades will pass through the village en route for the Afton windfarm project A trial run, pictured, has already taken place with a monstrous section of the turbine moving slowly, but steadily, towards its destination.
It will happen for real next week when the components will leave King George V docks in Glasgow around 4am and scheduled to arrive at Afton Road two hours later.
These will be the times for each delivery over the course of the following three months, normally on a weekday or Saturday, but not on a Sunday.
Construction manager, Ian Sloan, said: “The project has been progressing well recently with all new access tracks in place and concrete pours completed for 17 out of the 25 turbine foundations.
“Wind turbine component abnormal loads are starting to get delivered to site from Tuesday. Deliveries will be under police escort. They will generally be Mondays to Saturdays.”
Afton windfarm is around 6km (3.7miles) south of New Cumnock, straddles the border with Dumfries and Galloway and is adjacent to Windy Standard windfarm.
