A DRONGAN driver this week received a fine and penalty points for making a blunder over an expired drivers licence, Thomas Edgar, of Coyle Avenue, Drongan, pled guilty to driving with an expired licence after cruising about in his motor, unaware his licence was invalid.
Edgar committed the offence in September last year in the village’s Milmannoch Avenue, claiming that he did not realise that his licence had lapsed. He was also charged with driving without insurance as a result.
Appearing at Ayr Sheriff Court last week, Edgar opted to represent himself, explaining to Justice Peter McCall: “I was not aware that my licence had expired. So I also wasn’t aware that I had no insurance because of the expired licence.” He was handed a £380 as well six penalty points on his licence.
Sentencing, Justice McCall said: “Mr Edgar, on the first charge the court is going to fine you £200 reduced to £180 and on charge two £250 reduced to £200. You will also receive six penalty points, taking you to nine points.”
