CUMNOCK Community Council have decided to oppose plans for a new wind farm development near the town.
Banks Renewables have lodged a planning application to build eight turbines between New Cumnock and Cumnock.
Dubbed 'High Cumnock' the wind farm could generate �3.4 million for the local area as well as 27.2MW in electricity.
However, the community council have decided the downsides of the plan outweigh the positives and have unanimously agreed to object to the planning application.
Members will be collecting signatures for a petition to object to the wind farm on Tuesday, April 16 at the entrance to ASDA in Cumnock.
There is also the opportunity to sign objections at the Coffee Pot, Townhead Street.
The Community Council are objecting to the plans on the grounds that the wind farm would have a high visual impact and would be detrimental to health and wildlife.
Banks Renewables say that the wind farm would bring major economic benefits for the area and they would use help create jobs and training opportunities for young people.
