THE CHOOKY BRAE
BY D.C. JACKSON
DIRECTED BY KENNY MILLER
Borderline Theatre Company is touring Scotland from Thursday 2 September to Saturday 2 October with DC Jackson’s The Chooky Brae, directed by Kenny Miller.
The follow up to 2008’s award winning production The Wall and 2009’s hit The Ducky, The Chooky Brae is a new comedy, set in the small Ayrshire town of Stewarton, written by D C Jackson
It’s Christmas day in Stewarton and Irene Gordon is struggling to get in the festive spirit. Her 18-year-old daughter Norma has just had a baby; her ex-husband Gordon’s just had a stroke and her eldest, Barry is having a break down.
Even the Dr Who Christmas special is disappointing. If this was a wonderful life she would receive some angelic intervention - instead she gets Rab McGuire and an escaped chicken that won’t be stuffed.
The Chooky Brae is a poignant and very funny comedy about love, duty, free-range fowl and realising that what you’ve got isn’t necessarily what you want.
Scotsman Fringe First winner for My Romantic History at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, writer D C Jackson is one of Scotland’s most exciting young playwrights. He is currently under commission to the Royal Court Theatre, London, the National Theatre of Scotland, The Comedy Unit and BBC Radio Scotland.
My Romantic History is playing at the Traverse Theatre as part this year’s Festival Fringe and then moves to England in a production by the Bush Theatre and Sheffield Theatres in association with Birmingham Rep.
Director, Kenny Miller is known for his stunning work as both a director and a designer. He won the Manchester Evening News Best Production Award for 10 Rillington Place, won CATS Awards for Best Ensemble for his Little Bit of Rough season, Best Technical Production for Smoking with Lulu and Best Production for Scrooge. He recently directed and designed The Seagull, Company Policy and Romeo and Juliet for Oran Mor and co-directed Autobahn for his own company Theatre Jezebel.
After The Chooky Brae he will be designing Douglas Maxwell’s new musical The Bookie, for Cumbernauld Theatre, which will be touring across Scotland.
Members of the hugely talented cast of The Chooky Brae are; Sally Reid (Norma), Anita Vetesse (Irene Gordon), Stewart Porter (Gordon Gordon), Scott Hoatson (Barry) and Jordan Young (Rab).
From Inverness to Stranraer, Borderline tours entertaining theatre across Scotland to audiences who want a good night out.
Borderline Theatre Company is one of Scotland’s longest established touring theatre companies, having played to over 850,000 people in the last 36 years. .
