Friday night (09/10/09) saw Cumnock Area Musical Production Society showcase some of the music that the group has performed over the years, with songs from The King and I, Les Misserables, The Lion King, Chess, We Will Rock You and Jesus Christ Superstar, as well as a few very notable solo and duet performances.

The very capable CAMPS band were also on song with a good variety of tunes like Blue Moon, Mais Mineur, Bill Bailey, It Don't Mean A Thing and Joshua.

A very good turn out saw very few empty seats when the concert began, with four songs from the upcoming pantomime.

Then a solo from Mrs Ruth Douglas got things going at a good pace. Various band numbers came next and a duet from Ruth and Anne Hainey took us forward with Philip Doule singing Anthem from Chess and the first half coming to a close with the ensemble singing a medley from the Lion King.

After the break, Anne Hainey starting things off with I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables followed by Craig Gilchrist on piano singing Hallelujah.

The chorus then had a break while Robert Lowe and the band played It Don't Mean A Thing and Joshua. Next up was Lyndsay Black with No One But You from We Will Rock You and Kathryn Hainey with a lovely song from Toy Story 2 called When she Loved Me. Which brought us to an old favourite, a medley from Jesus Christ Superstar to finish the evening off with a climatic end.

Judging by the positive comments and smiling faces at the end of the performance I think it could be classed as an extremely successful concert, which showed off the host of local talent CAMPS has to offer.

Next year, 2010, marks the 10th anniversary of CAMPS and the group have decided to mark the occasion by revisiting the first show that they performed, and the last week in March will see the King and I return to the stage in Cumnock Academy. With other events in the planning stage, next year promises to be a busy one with a good deal of variety and content.

Still to come this year from CAMPS are concerts for various church groups throughout Cumnock and Doon valley which are normally well supported occasions and of course the hugely popular annual pantomime which this year will be "Trouble in Pantoland". This is a fairly new script only written 2 years ago but written in a traditional style where an Evil wizard tries to take over Pantoland with Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Cinderella and of course Widow Twanky to name a few, this promises to be a fun packed fast moving pantomime. Will the Evil wizard succeed and take over Pantoland or will a hero emerge from the chaos and save the day ? The only way to find out is come along to Cumnock academy on the 25th. 26th, 27th, of November at 7.30 or Saturday 28th November at 1.30.

CAMPS are a voluntary group and are open to new members and volunteers who would like to get involved in any aspect of musical theatre whether it be performing on stage or in the band or helping out behind the scenes we meet on a Monday night at Cumnock town hall between 7.00pm and 9.30pm and on a Wednesday between 7.00pm and 9.00pm at the assembly hall in Cumnock Academy. All are welcome
