‘Making Marks’ is the new exhibition of paintings by East Ayrshire artist Vikki Hastings. Her colourful landscapes brighten the Wellington Gallery exhibition space and feature some diverse places: Glencoe, seaside sunsets and Highland cottages, Lake Como and Sommocolonia, and closer to home with the Leadhills, Maidens, Dumfries House and Barassie reflections. There’s also a selection of figures, some romantic and others inviting a story. Scotland’s Decision features a reclining woman draped in a saltire and refers to the recent referendum. Vikki spent a lot of time weighing up how to vote and this provided the idea for the image.
Art graduate Vikki gained her degree in Edinburgh and lives with boyfriend John, and her gerbil and goldfish in Kilmarnock. She tutors an art class in the gallery and has painted many commissions including murals for an Ayr restaurant.
The exhibition is on at Wellington Gallery, Wellington Street, Kilmarnock to the end of the year and is free to view. Open Monday to Saturday from 9am to 5pm with more information from www.wellingtonart.co.uk .
