Students of University of the West of Scotland’s School of Creative & Cultural Industries will showcase their work on Saturday April 26 (10.00am-9.30pm) and Sunday 27 April (10.00am – 4.00pm) at University of the West of Scotland, University Avenue, Ayr, as part of Open Studios Ayrshire (OSA).

The annual two-day event is the brainchild of a group of Ayrshire artists who are keen to offer a platform to the many talented artisans of Ayrshire as well as help visitors discover the artist within.

Visitors will have the opportunity to try their eye at photography and the chance to be a model with a little creative help from the experts, if you have wanted to draw but been afraid to try then you can grab a pencil and paper or simply talk about art with people who know.

These interactive workshops will give visitors the opportunity to discover or affirm the artist within and fourth year digital art student Stuart Duffy said: “We want you to have an immersive experience during your visit, so whether you just want to view, talk or try, there is something for everyone.” Students from BA Digital Art, Contemporary Art Practice and Photography together with MA Creative Media Practice students are participating in OSA, with the event at UWS Ayr Campus featuring exhibitions of fine art in a diversity of media, including sculpture, lithographic prints, textiles and video.

A series of short films and screen projects created by Filmmaking & Screenwriting and Contemporary Screen Acting Students will be playing throughout the OSA event showcasing the skills of screen writing, screen acting, editing, performance and the use of new media to disseminate student work online.

A number of sonic and visual pieces spanning a variety of disciplines will be showcased by students currently and previously involved in MA Songwriting and BA Commercial Music. The event will finish off with a musical medley on Sunday 27th at 2.00pm performed by UWS Musical Theatre students.

Lesley-Anne Niven of the University’s School of Creative & Cultural Industries said: “Our students are delighted to be playing such an active role in Open Studios Ayrshire.”
