Walk For Fun 2014 for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust will take place in Blair Castle & estate, Dalry on Saturday June 14 from 10.30am to 1pm.

It is a great way to get people together to increase the national profile of cervical cancer and raise vital funds, but just as importantly to celebrate life and to remember all those who have lost their battle with cervical cancer.

The venue has been provided courtesy of Sally & Charles Hendry, millionaire owners of the magnificent Blair Estate. Blair sits within 250 acres of its own landscaped gardens, park and woodlands. It is also an ideal base to experience Scotland’s magnificent scenery and history. The origins of this ancient castle date back to c.1105 with the construction of a basic Norman Tower; the remains of which can still be seen in The Guard Room.

In the 12th Century King William the Lion granted The Barony of Blair and its associated lands to Jean Francois, a knight of Norman descent. His son took the name de Blare which was later adapted to Blair. From the early Norman descendants, Blair has become inextricably woven with Scottish history and has evolved from the first rudimentary castellated tower into the grand, yet comfortable home that stands there today. With a second tower added in 1203 and major additions in 1668 and the 1800′s, the castle is reputed to be the oldest continually inhabited mansion house in Scotland. Both Sally & Charles have decided no dogs during the walk this year but are very much looking forward to welcoming you all and will offer refreshments at the end of the walk.
