CUMNOCK Rugby FC's Cougars travelled to a sunny Calderglen Park to be welcomed by East Kilbride on Sunday.

Cougars were playing a man short on a pitch size bigger than they are used to playing on, but this didn’t deter them from looking to show off their skills.

Borrowing two players from EK the morning started with a 10-minute warm-up game, followed by a game of two 10-minute halves and finally another game lasting 10 minutes.

It took the warm up game for the Cougars to get their game heads switched on as EK were making some fantastic runs against the visitors' defence.

After losing the ball in a ruck in first play Cumnock realised their rucking had to step up a pace.

Up against such speedy players there could be no room for hesitation.

Onto the main game and EK switched their borrowed player, giving the Cougars a new team mate for 20 minutes.

With EK showing such a fast paced game at the start, the Cougars had to step up their game up a little with some encouragement from Jayden, their borrowed EK team mate.

The first half of the game showed both sides running in some fast tries.

Stopping EK's fast players from breaking through the cougars defence was a big challenge for the P4s.

Some great tackling from all Cougars sure slowed down the attack from EK.

When Cumnock got on the attack, team work was the skill that got the ball over the line.

With some speedy pop passes and offloads when tackled.

In the second half of the game the Cougars were tiring, but managed to steal the ball from their opponents a lot more from rucks or EK handling errors.

Again this half seen some fast scoring tries from both sides with the game finishing 13-all.

To end the day both teams had a 10 minute game.

Credit is due to East Kilbride for hosting their Cumnock visitors as well as loaning the Cougars four players throughout the day.

In the words of Jayden our borrowed EK player at half time team talk: "we don’t play for teams, we play rugby”.

Squad: Aron, Cameron, Jack, John and Kenzie

A Cougars' spokesman said: "Our P4 team is currently recruiting new players. If any boy or girl would like to give it a try we train Thursday evening at Townhead Park Cumnock from 6pm. Come along."
