Aimed at 2 to 5 year olds, all the spaces for the morning were ‘sold-out’ weeks in advance. Despite the weather doing its worst, the group went ahead with the planning and a brief break in the rain ensured the session went ahead for the seven young participants who braved the conditions.

Starting with some songs and warm up exercises, it wasn’t long before everyone was zipping around the park and playing games on their bike. By the time the rain came back on everyone was having too much fun dodging the ‘lava flow’ and gliding over crocrodile pits that there was no way anyone was stopping.

After a brief break for some gingerbread men it was back on the bikes for some final games including ‘adult’ slalom, where the grownups took the role of obstacles.

As the session wrapped up with rain getting heavier, one four-year old exclaimed disappointingly “are we finished already?”.

Ayr Burners are now planning a follow up session in early June.

Meanwhile, the group host their second members meeting at the Savoy Park Hotel on Thursday night with a cycling themed quiz night.

Guests will be made most welcome for a team game with questions on everything bike related, from the highway code to the height of the Ayrshire Alps, the winner of the Tour de France to the price of pedals.

Ayr Burners riders are enjoying the Sportive Season. Rod Henderson led a group of riders around the Drumlanrig Tearfund Challenge on Saturday, while several members will take on the Etape Caledonia in Pitlochry this weekend, including the family team of Jonathan Burns and Amy Law, raising money for charity.
