The country’s new top ranking competition, the Scottish Super Series will give club players across the country the opportunity to pit club players against world beaters.

Beginning this summer with eight regional qualifiers and culminating in two weekends of finals at Glasgow 2014 Games venue Kelvingrove, the Scottish Super Series is a direct result of its recent 18 month Competitions Review Consultation.

Of Bowls Scotland’s member clubs, players and associations that took part in the consultation’s survey, 78 per cent in the under-35s, and 59 per cent in the over-35s wanted the chance to test themselves against Scotland’s best.

Ms Johnston, the 2007 World Indoor Champion in Mixed Pairs and World Outdoor Championships Singles winner said: “The Scottish Super Series will be really good for women’s bowling.

“Women don’t get as many competitions as the men so this will give us some tough competition, and the big prize money and ranking points will be a great incentive.” The Scottish Super Series will be an open, knock out competition for male and female bowlers of any age or ability who can enter either a singles or pairs competition.

The competition will be Bowls Scotland’s sole Tier 1 event, carrying more ranking points than any event in Scotland, together with a substantial prize fund of over £22,000. These two factors alone should make it attractive to the full range of competitive bowlers in Scotland.

National Men’s Singles Champion Kevin Anderson, was part of the Scotland team that returned from the Junior World Championships in Australia with a gold and four bronze medals.

He said: “The Scottish Super Series is a great opportunity for club players to have a crack at challenging some of the big names of the sport and I can’t wait to enter the competition.” The Scottish Super Series will be an open, knock out competition for male and female bowlers of any age or ability who can enter either a singles or pairs competition.
