MAUCHLINE'S up and coming badminton star, Holly Newall, has exited the Scottish Open Grand Prix after a thrilling run to reach the first round.
The 16-year-old was beaten by experienced Swiss player Sabrina Jacquet, in the women's singles challenge.
She had successfully negotiated two qualifying rounds, defeating England’s Jessica Hopton, and higher-ranked French player, Anne Tran.
Holly still maintained an interest in the competition, which is being played at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.
Partnered by Julie MacPherson in the women's doubles, the pair were Jenny Moore and Victoria Williams, from England.
But her two terrific wins have given her a boost to sit alongside the news of Scotland landing the 2017 World Individual Championships.
She said: “That’s a great incentive to push myself and try to get into the senior squad.
"The World Championships is fantastic for Glasgow and it will be great to have world-class players coming to the city.”
