CLAIRE Johnston admits she can’t contain her excitement now the Commonweath Games are just 'days away’.

And she defended the opening ceremony uniform, which has been the object of scorn since it was revealed on Monday.

The Auchinleck bowler returned from a weekend camp at Stirling University this week ready for the biggest event of her life.

And with bowls one of the first events to start on July 24, Claire is readying herself for her medal tilt.

She said: “Everything is going really well and the preparations went well up at Stirling. We’re getting a few days off now before we go back on Monday. We will be there until July 18 when we stay at the athletes village which in itself will be really exciting.

“I just can’t wait. It seemed like it was two years away not long ago and now it’s just days away.” Claire is not yet able to reveal what bowling event she will be competiting in. But whatever one it is, she will be ready.

He said: “We’ve had lots of preparation at Kelvingrove as it’s important that we know our home rink better than anyone.

“We have played a lot over the summer and things have gone really well.” Before all that, Claire will take her place at the opening ceremony - and has as has no problem donning the much-maligned home uniform.

The Jill Blackwood-inspired outfit, featuring a turquoise, fuschia, navy blue and caramel kilt, has been been panned on social media.

But Claire added: “I like it - it’s different and it’s all about making an entrance. But I’m just proud to be there and it wouldn’t matter what we were wearing.”
