A FANS’ favourite returned from long-term injury on Saturday just days after another left Loch Park for pastures new.

Cammy Marlow was making his first league appearance of the season as Davie Gray left on a free transfer by mutual consent.

Following the 4-0 win for Glenafton over Girvan in which Marlowe played a significant part, he reflected on his comeback.

He said: “I was out for four-and-a-half months but it is great to be back and get the full 90 minutes under my belt.

“I needed that. I have been working hard and doing extra runs after training and things like that. I have been bursting a gut, just to get back in action, and today was good.

“We are definitely still in the race for the league title and we needed a win like this today.

“It has given the team a massive boost and the boys were brilliant today, it was just what we needed.”

Meanwhile Davie Gray was allowed to leave and get the opportunity of getting more game time elsewhere.

Having signed for Glens in January 2016 from BSC Glasgow, he scored his first of 22 goals for the club against Benburb a month later.

It was also the first of many spectacular free-kicks that he terrorised opposing defences and keepers with during his two years at Loch Park.

Among the highlights were two crackers in a 6-1 win over Muirkirk in the Ardagh Cup and a trademark free-kick in the Evening Times Cup Final.

That particular strike was an important step towards the treble, as was a goal in the Scottish Cup against Broxburn.

A club spokesman said: “In his time at Glenafton, Davie made 75 appearances and scored 22 goals. Thanks for the memories and all the best for the future.”
