GIANT killers Craigmark Burntonians took a major scalp when they sent Super League team Cumbernauld United crashing out of the West of Scotland Cup.

Goals from Jordan “Crusher” Barr and Dan McColgan saw the Dalmellington side win, what was only their second game of the year, 2-1 at Station Park on Saturday.

Boss Ian Patterson hailed his side for producing a top drawer performance but played down hopes of promotion, despite being in fourth place as they gear up for another Ayrshire District League clash on Saturday.

He said: “We deserved to win the game as we dominated the first half and were on a good position after scoring a second goal just before the break. That’s the second Super League team we have beaten this season - we beat Troon in August and that was well deserved.”

Now the boss, who took charge in the summer is looking for some more good performances in the league.

He added: “We have done well and after so many call-offs we just want to get as many league games in as possible.

“It’s been frustrating not playing but it’s the same for a lot of other teams too.

“We have a tough game on Saturday, but must go to Annbank looking to take something from the game, the guys will be up for it.”

Asked their objectives he said: “The aim must be to beat last season’s points total and hopefully we can achieve that. We are well on the way there.

“Promotion will be difficult but the aim is to try and make sure we finish in the top five - that would be an achievement.”
