CRAIG Potter savoured Glenafton Athletic's battling 1-0 win over rivals Auchinleck Talbot on Wednesday night.

The assistant manager was in the driving seat as boss Craig McEwan sees out a six-match touchline ban.

Conor Lynass' superb individual goal moved Glens above Talbot and Beith to keep them in the hunt for a first Super League title.

Potter was pleased by the entire team's performance and said: "I thought we showed unbelievable spirit. I thought the resiliance that we showed was unbelievable.

"It takes a lot as there's not many teams that come here and defend for 25 minutes with 10 men and we stood up to everything they had.

"They boys are going and throwing their heads in front of things and our goalie's so composed in everything he does and comes and takes things.

"The goal lets us go and be in that position that we can defend when we go a man down.

"The workrate and spirit of the squad was unbelievable and it goes a long, long way.

"I think it took us about 15 minutes to get going really. They were on top to start and the more and more the game went on we kinda got into our shape and we got into the game."

Potter was also full of praise for goalscorer Lynass after wonderful bit of skill saw him ghost past five Talbot defenders before slotting the ball beyond Andy Leishman.

Potter added:

"We scored a great quality goal and it gives us a big lift. Conor's done great for it and it gives everybody a wee boost."

The midfielder was on the same wavelength as Potter after the match.

Lynass told the Chronicle: "The boys battled well. We got the goal and defended well when we were down to 10 men and kept the clean sheet. I think we did brilliantly."

He was also pleased with his goal and added: "I just kept going and going and it opened up and I hit it and it went in."
