WHAT a difference a couple of months can make.

Cumnock boss John McKeown slammed his sides lack of goals last season. Now the Nock boss is spoiled for choice as his side notched up a cruising 5-0 win at the weekend - with all goals coming from new signings.

The Townhead side travelled to Glasgow to take on Central District Division One side St Anthony’s and the manager was left delighted to see his new recruits on the scoresheet.

A first half hat trick from Ross McNeil and goals from Aiden Malone and Del Esplin completed the drubbing.

The Cumnock boss said: “It was good to get the new guys a few goals. We struggled on that front a bit last season and we have addressed it. Paul Quinn is the only striker that is still here from last season and he played well on Saturday too.” The Cumnock boss admits he is no rush to start his sides competitive campaign as he looks to gel his squad in their pre-season schedule.

McKeown confirmed the signing of Malone this week after the Chronicle first reported the deal was close two weeks ago. The Townhead gaffer also sealed a deal to bring highly rated 21-year old, Josh Watt to the club.

Watt has previously had spells at Motherwell and Stenhousemuir and joined up to train with Arbroath earlier in the summer.

The Townhead gaffer said: “I had seen Josh playing at Stenhousemuir and I was impressed by him. He can play left wing or even on the right so he gives us options and he has a good turn of pace so he is a very exciting player and I’m delighted to have convinced him to come here rather than Arbroath.” Cumnock currently have a squad of 17, with McKeown to add a potential two more before the season starts.
