GLENAFTON look set for a bright future after long running developments moved a step closer to become a reality.

The plans for a £1.8 million development at Loch Park took another move forward this week when the group behind the project got the green light to get the drawings finalised and prepare for planning permission for the new sports hub.

The club had a meeting in the Hunter Suite with the committee, the Glens development group , the New Cumnock Steering group and the Princes Trust to finalise the drawing and prepare to submit an application to East Ayrshire council.

The development, a complete new build on the old away side of the park across from the stand, will include a brand new gymnasium that will be available to the public, four changing rooms, a kitchen and shop, a social club and an upstairs hospitality suite. among other facilities for the use of the development group.

Glenafton club secretary, John Stewart said: “The club is delighted with this news as all the groups have worked very hard to achieve this and we hope to have approved drawings ready to show our supporters and the public very soon. We are hopeful that it will all be completed and open by June 2016.

“It’ll be Glenafton’s own building to share with the community. We’ve been fighting to get this for five years and it’s not just us. All of the groups have been working so hard for this. The steering group have been a brilliant help to the club during the whole process.

“This will be better than most first division senior clubs have. it should prove to be something that attracts players to the club in the future.” Ian Harper, of the New Cumnock Community Action Plan Steering Group, said: “It’s a great thing for the community as well as the club.

“It looks as if, with the backing of the Prince’s Trust, work could be imminent and everybody is chuffed about it. Every little thing means a lot to the community and this project is great news for a wee village like New Cumnock.”
