LUGAR boss Carlo Walker has insisted it’s too early to judge his side’s title credentials - despite netting 24 goals in their last five matches.

The Bunnets lie second in the Ayrshire District League after racking up five goals in each of their last four matches - but gaffer Walker says it’s too soon to be getting carried away.

Speaking to the Chronicle, Walker said: “We’re happy with our form and the way we are playing but we’ve yet to play the bigger teams in the league - Kilwinning, Darvel and Ardrossan.

“Until we have completed the first round of games then it is hard to say where we stand.” Lugar kept their impressive hot streak going as they swept aside Kello Rovers at Rosebank Park with a thumping 5-1 victory.

Walker said: “I was very happy that we won and managed to score five goals, but we won’t be getting carried away with ourselves.

“I reminded the players after the game, we may be winning games comfortably just now and scoring plenty of goals, but we have hard games still to play.

“We were sitting top of the league this time last year and missed out on the title. Now we are sitting second, two points off of top spot thanks to silly dropped points against Craigmark. But we just need to keep winning games and trying to pick up points.” Walker is preparing his side for cup duty this weekend as they travel to take on Rossvale in the Scottish Cup Round 3 and he is confident his boys can progress to the draw for the next round.

He said: “I’d be very disapointed if we don’t win on Saturday. It’ll be a hard game but we’re confident that we have enough to get through it.

“It’s not a glamour tie but we are looking forward to it. Sometimes you’d rather get a winnable game than a big draw against an Irvine Meadow or a Talbot. You either get a cash cow or somebody that you fancy your chances against and for us we want to progress as far as we can in the cup.

“For teams like Lugar it’s about getting trips to teams you’ve never played before where we can hopefully get a good support through for the game. It’s a game we’re very much looking forward to.” Lugar take on Rossvale at Petershill Park, Springburn with a 1.45pm kick off.
