A THUMPING derby win was just the set up Talbot needed heading in to their Scottish Cup showdown today.

Tommy Sloan’s Talbot side were high in confidence ahead of last Saturday’s crunch derby with Cumnock on the back of 12 straight victories and were keen not to slip up on unlucky 13.

After sweeping aside Cumnock in a crushing 5-0 win, the Beechwood boys now focus themselves on senior Scottish Cup duty today.

Sloan, pictured, takes his side to Meadowbank Stadium to face tough Lowland League outfit, Edinburgh City.

Looking ahead to the game, the bot gaffer said: “I had somebody watching Edinburgh City on Saturday. They won 1-0 and apparently they are a good side so we’ve no doubt it’ll be a tough game.

“They have some good players at this level and they will be looking to progress just like we will.” Speaking of his side’s demolition of their traditional rivals, and their current 13 match winning streak, Sloan said: “It was a great win for us on Saturday. We were sensational in the last half hour.

“It was a tight game for the most part, it was only after the second goal that we really took control. I think that maybe knocked the stuffing out of them a wee bit. We were dominant after that.” He continued: “If you know me, you know I don’t concern myself with winning streaks and records, that’s just something that fires up the other side to try and beat us. We just take it one game at a time and, no matter what competition we are in, we just try and win games of football.

“We’re not worried about adding to the unbeaten run, it’s all about results and we are confident of getting one on Saturday, as will they.

“Confidence should be high. We’ve not played well in some games but we’re still winning them. You talk about 13 wins in a row, but that can change in any game, it means nothing to us. Progressing as far we can is what matters but there is still room for improvement.

“It’s good to be involved in the senior cup, it’s something different for us and we are just looking forward to it.” And with the aim of going as far in the cup as possible, Sloan openly admits he is keen to avoid any of the big guns in the next round if his side get the win they want .

He said: “We want the easiest draw we can get that’s the best way to stay in the cup.” The game is a 3pm kick off at Meadowbank Stadium, Edinburgh.
