TOMMY Sloan says Talbot will be ready for Lowland League leaders Edinburgh City when they meet in this season’s senior Scottish Cup.

The teams were pulled out of the hat together when the draw was made on Monday afternoon, with the match due to take place at Meadowbank Stadium on October 4.

Speaking to the Chronicle immediately after the draw, Sloan said: “All I really know about them at this stage is that they are the leaders of the Lowland League. Just from that we know it will be a tough game for us.

“I’ll speak to people about them and watch them myself so that we are best prepared for the match. But that’s a few weeks away and we’ve important games before that.” Talbot booked their place in the second round with an impressive 5-0 victory over Buckie Thistle at Beechwood Park.

It was a performance that delighted Sloan and continued Bot’s 100 per cent start to the season.

He said: “I was really pleased with the boys. At 1-0 up we hit the post and missed some chances and you start to think it might be one of those days.

“But we were excellent after the break and could have scored a few more. They tired and couldn’t live with us and we were really comfortable in the end.” Talbot have yet to be really tested this season but that should change when they travel to take on a Hurlford side that have won both their league meetings this season.

And Sloan said: “It will be a tough contest and I’d expect Hurlford to be challenging come the end of the season. It’s well documented that they’ve got big backers and they’ve plenty of players with senior experience.

“So we know what we’re up against but we’re playing well and looking forward to it.” Mark Campbell missed Saturday match and remains a doubt while Martin McGoldrick returned from injury unscathed against Buckie.
