GLENS hitman Alain Kinney scored one of the fastest goals in junior history on Saturday - but was left gutted when the Loch Park side failed to capitalise on it.

Kinney netted straight from kick-off at Petershill Park, firing home after an incredible 10 SECONDS.

But Kinney admits the memory won’t be one he cherishes as Glens went on to lose 4-3 after a last-gasp screamer from Petershill’s Bert Wright put Tommy Bryce’s side to the sword.

Kinney has started the campaign in fine form - netting five goals in five games - but even he was surprised when the opportunity presented itself in the opening seconds.

Recalling the flash goal, Kinney said: “I’m not too sure if it’s the fastest goal,, I think it’s certainly the fastest ever goal at Petershill Park but you’d have to find out if it’s the fastest.

“We took centre, the ball went wide to Dan Orsi, he crossed it in and I was there to get on the end of it.

“I was speaking to the Petershill goalkeeper after the game and he said he came out, saw us in the centre circle, turned around to put down his water bottle and the next thing he saw when he turned back was me heading the ball in, he even missed the kick off.” Happy to have bagged his third league goal in as many games, and his fifth in five competitive matches, Kinney added: “It’s something nice I can talk about when I’m finished but right now it’s just another goal to me. I’d swap the goal for the three points.

“I know how difficult it is to score goals in this league but that’ll just be another one since we didn’t win the game.” Kinney joked: “I can’t believe I had the energy to get there in just ten seconds.

“I asked around if I won anything for it like a few quid.” Glens were left cursing their poor defending that cost them a point, with gaffer Tommy Bryce saying: “Some of the defending was schoolboy stuff. At least two of their goals we really should have done better with.

“It’s frustrating, to score so early on and lose the game. You get the early goal and want to build on it but we couldn’t. I thought we dominated for long spells of the second half but when you defend the way we did it’s difficult.

“It can be hard taking the lead so early on because you’re then left defending the lead for the rest of the game. They score at the death and don’t have to defend anything because the game is over.” Both Kinney and Bryce agreed though, that the match-winning strike was something that they could do nothing about.

Kinney said: ”It was a beauty, a goal worthy of winning any game.” Glens have picked up just three points from their opening three league fixtures.

Bryce said: “We started the season very well with a win at Clydebank but the last two games have been disappointing for us. Again in the Hurlford game we had chances and couldn’t take them.” Kinney added: “To be fair, we have had a few key players out injured. They are now slowly but surely getting back to full fitness. When we have close to a full strength squad we are good enough for a top six finish finish this and hopefully another good cup run just we did last year.”
