GLENS gaffer Tommy Bryce has been left optimistic by his side's good pre-season form heading into the new league campaign.

Bryce’s depleted Glens squad still had too much firepower for plucky Lugar as they ran out 6-0 victors and marched on to the quarter finals of the Ardagh Glass Cup.

In a tough section of the Ardagh Glass Cup, Glens only loss came at the hands of reigning Premier Division champions, Talbot.

Bryce’s Scottish Cup runners-up were without key figures as they saw off Carlo Walker's side at Rosebank last Saturday, with several of the Glens’ under 19’s called up to the first team.

Bryce said: “It was a good result and a good performance from the boys. We were without a few first team regulars like Craig Menzies and Aaron Connolly while Adam Strachan was also missing due to illness so I was pleased with the way we played in that respect.

“We drafted in a few boys from the 19’s to make up the squad but we should have a few of the boys who were missing back in time for the first league game.” Bryce has turned to under 19’s stand out Klark Thompson this pre-season and given the youngster valuable game time. He said: “Klark has come in and done very well for us. He’ll go back to the under 19’s now but he is there if required, which is a bonus.” Glens begin their league campaign away to Clydebank today. Bryce said: “Our form in the Ardagh Cup has given us a wee boost. Apart from the 2-2 draw with Cumnock we have played well and built a wee bit of confidence.

“We travel to Clydebank on Saturday though and they are a handy team, especially at their own place .

“If we perform well in and get decent cup runs in the Scottish and West of Scotland Cups I’d be happy. Hopefully we can do what we did in the Scottish Cup last year.”
