TOMMY Bryce admits today's Ardagh Glass Cup opener against Cumnock can’t come soon enough as Glens look to put Scottish Cup heartache behind them.

The New Cumnock side’s last outing was their 3-0 final defeat to Hurlford and it’s been a long, hard summer nursing their wounds.

But after two months of reflection, Glens get their latest campaign with a derby showdown against their local rivals.

And Bryce said: “Our last game wasn’t the best obviously and while we enjoyed the whole Scottish Cup run, the final itself was disappointing as we lost the game.

“We’ve had time to reflect on that and that’s over now and we’re just really looking forward to starting over again.

“We’ve had the the friendlies but nothing quite beats playing in a competitive environment. We’re looking forward to it - it should be a tough match.” It’s been a busy summer for Bryce, who completed his fourth summer signing when stopper Chris Meikle joined from Harmony Row.

Alongside Meikle, Bryce has added real experience and tried-and-trusted quality with the signings of Pat Walker, Adam Strachan and Daniel Orsi.

All three have played at a decent level in the senior game, with Strachan and Daniel Orsi playing for Partick Thistle and Queen of the South respectively, while Walker starred for Albion Rovers, Annan and Dumbarton.

And Bryce hopes the new boys, along with his existing squad, can take Glens to the next level this season.

He added: “They’ve all got a good pedigree and we’re confident they will add to the squad.

“Chris is the latest signing and he’s a defender who has shown a lot of promise. He is ready to make an impact in our first team.” Glens kicked off their Ardagh Glass Campaign last season with an embarrassing 7-1 loss to District League side Lugar when Bryce was barely able to field 11 players.

This year his new signings are likely to feature but Alain Kinney is injured while Ryan McChesney and Jamie McGeoghan are unavailable. Darren McGill is pushing for a return after injury.
