TOMMY Sloan says he’s as hungry as ever for trophies after devouring his third of the season on Saturday.

The Talbot boss watched his side complete a memorable treble as they destroyed eight-man Neilston 7-1 to land the Evening Times League Champions Cup.

It now means the Bot gaffer has won 14 trophies - including back-to-back league titles - in just over a decade at Beechwood.

But don’t think all that success has weakened his desire for further glory.

Speaking to the Chronicle as he clutched his latest trophy, he said: “I am hungry as ever and want to keep going. When I lose that or anything changes then it will be time for me to leave.

“But I’m certainly not thinking that way at the moment. Far from it.

“And I see that with the players as well. A few of them are getting older and it is hard to keep it going but they’ve been brilliant. But it’s important that we freshen up the squad again with strong, hungry, young players. That’s what I’ll be aiming to do this summer.” Saturday’s win was a fitting end to a campaign that started brightly, tailed off in the middle, before coming good again in the final few months.

Sloan added: “I’d say it has been a brilliant campaign. And to win the West for the first time, along with the league and Evening Times, is very special.

“We started the season really well but the Stranraer defeat in the Scottish Cup knocked us back a bit. I could see that it affected the players for a wee while and that was noticeable in some of our performances.

“But they rallied again and to complete a treble is a great achievement.” Saturday’s win was never in doubt after Mick McCann and Graham Wilson hit hat-tricks in the rout of the Central First Division champions.

The win was made easier by the ill-discipline of their opponents who had three men red-carded.

But Sloan said: “We got a great start and things were obviously made a bit easier for us with the sending-offs.

“But the boys were professional and got the job done. To score seven goals in a final is always a great achievement.” Sloan was due to speak with his out-of-contract players this week as he starts looking ahead to next season.

He will be looking to replace Craig Pettigrew following his decision to quit for Stranraer but Gordon Pope’s return gives him another option in defence.

A striker will also be needed as Allan Mckenzie is poised to join Pollok after a frustrating season since his summer switch from Shotts.
