RYAN McChesney is desperate for Glenafton’s Scottish Cup journey to continue - after a rollercoaster of a season.

The 21-year-old admits the prospects of trophy glory seemed remote when they were hammered 7-1 by Lugar at the start the campaign.

But new boss Tommy Bryce remoulded a squad torn apart following the exodus to Hurlford of Darren Henderson and a host of players, and they have stormed to the last-four of junior football’s flagship competition..

They now face a double header against Camelon, with the away leg up first on Sunday, and the stopper said: “Everybody is saying how well we’ve done considering we lost 7-1 to Lugar and were struggling at the start of the season.

“I don’t think many would have said we’d get into the Scottish Cup semi-final after that.

“We only have three players from last year but we’ve picked up and are now a real team and doing well.

“To beat Rob Roy on Saturday means we can go into the game full of confidence.

“We’ve beaten Shotts, Musselburgh and Cumnock so we’ve had a tough run already. Some fans think the Cumnock game was already our final but we want to go further. It’s a game we’re buzzing about.” McChesney, who joined the club as a 16-year-old, has never got beyond the third round prior to this season’s run.

And he believes Tommy Bryce’s men will have every chance of progressing if they can be within touching distance of the East of Scotland side when they bring them home to New Cumnock.

He added: “It’s going to be a tough match as they have a lot of good players and are a good side.

“But as long as we keep it tight and bring them back to Loch Park with a chance then I fancy us. I think having the home game second is an advantage for us.” McChesney is the only local lad involved in Sunday’s showdown and admits that will pile added pressure on to his young shoulders.

He added: “I’ll have family and friends going through for the game and they’ll be looking forward to the game. It might put a bit of pressure on me but hopefully I can reward them with a good performance and the victory over the two games.”
