SFL Youth League: Under 19

Ayr United Under 19's stretched their winning run to 4 games as they hit Montrose for six.

This was an excellent performance from the Ayr youngsters who recovered from a goal down to run out comfortable winners.

Montrose snatched an early lead when Ayr keeper Daryll Jones fumbled a 35 yard free kick, allowing the visitors striker to score into the empty net but within two minutes, United were back on level terms. From Jay Tiffoney's cross, George Thompson flicked the ball goalward and Aaron Connelly was on hand to poke the ball home.

Before a quarter of an hour had been played, United were in front. Again the supply came from Tiffoney with a dashing run down the right and from his cross Thompson thumped the ball past the helpless keeper. United continued to dominate the game and created several more chances before half time but had to settle for a one goal lead at the break. But 10 minutes after the restart, United increased their lead. Ross Robertson delivered an excellent ball to the back post for Thompson to head home.

Eight minutes later the game was ended as a contest. Steven Harris won the ball in the middle of the park and drove past two opposition players before unleashing an unstoppable drive from 30 yards into the top right hand corner of the net.

Ayr were in total control as Montrose struggled to get a touch of the ball and it came as no surprise when United added to their tally. Ian Fisher broke down the right and from the full backs' cross Robertson powered a header into the net from 8 yards.

Three minutes from time, Robertson turned provider as he whipped in a quality ball for substitute Dale Moore to head home.

Coach Stephen McMillan was delighted with his teams display. "We dominated the game despite an early set back and this team is now growing in confidence which augurs well for the future. We played some excellent football and our captain Ross Robertson led by example with a superb second half display."
