A LATE sickener saw Kello Rovers controversially miss out on all three points and manager John Quinn was left disgruntled after the whistle.

Scott Davidson ‘scored’ a second equaliser in the dying seconds for Kilsyth Rangers as the teams drew 3-3 at Nithside Park. However, Kello claims that the ball never crossed the line fell on deaf ears.

Quinn told the Chronicle: “I never saw it. What concerned me was the original decision to give a corner because it was clearly a goal-kick, clearly. The boy, I think it was the number eight, has headed it and it’s almost gone out for a shy — it was that poor a header— but it was him that headed it.

“The linesman has flagged for a by-kick and the referee has awarded a corner. I don’t know why he hasn’t taken the advice of the linesman. I spoke to him after the match and he said he thought it was a corner. He didn’t seem too convinced.

“In the dying seconds of the game we have to defend better. The keeper and a couple of my players have said it hasn’t crossed the line. It looks like the linesman has given the goal.”

The result leaves Kello sitting 11th in the Super League First Division, four points clear of the relegation play-offs ahead of a crucial match away to fellow strugglers Cumbernauld United.

After reflecting on this week’s game however, Quinn felt that a point was a just reward for both teams but he admitted just how happy he would have been if his side had held out.

“A draw was a fair reflection of the match,” he added. “They started well, we were poor for the first 15 or 20 minutes but we got back into it. This team just doesn’t give up. You can’t fault them, to a man they play for the jersey. Our keeper pulled out some some really good stops.

“I’d have been delighted with the three points. I said to the boys before that I wanted the three points, I didn’t care how we got them. We wanted to try and get a bit of momentum going. If I was the Kilsyth manager, I’d be disappointed with a point.”
