TEAMS from Cumnock and Doon Academies took part in a sporting event with a powerful message.
The first and second year pupils were joined in Dalmellington by a group from Grange Academy as 60 youngsters played in a No Knives Better Lives football tournament.
Doon Academy campus officer, PC Frank Kennedy and Ross Stormonth from Active Schools, welcomed the teams along.
While there was a competitive element, the focus of the event was fun and the only prize on the day was a fair play award which was won by Grange Academy.
No Knives Better Lives is a campaign, led by the Scottish Government, which highlights the dangers of violent crime, helping to divert young people away from antisocial behaviour.
Mr Kennedy said: “This was a brilliant event. The young people really got behind the tournament, training hard in the weeks running up to the competition.
“No Knives Better Lives is a worthwhile campaign which has a significant impact on young people.
“The tournament was great fun for everyone involved but there was serious message which we got across really well to our pupils.”
