CUMNOCK boss John McKeown watched on with delight as his side racked up a vital three points at Troon.

The Townhead side recorded a superb 4-2 win away to Troon on Saturday despite falling behind early on.

Goals from Keiran Wood, Paul Burns and a brace from Scott Anson helped McKeown's side to all three points.

After the win, McKeown explained the importance of the result. He said: "It was a really important one for us.It puts a bit of daylight between the likes of Troon and the teams below us.

"We changed the shape a wee bit on Saturday and it worked well for us.

"Big Scott Anson got his goals. He had been out of the team for the last three games and we saw in training that he was chomping at the bit to get back in the team.

"Scott let his standards drop a wee bit and he knows that. His level of performance dipped below his own standards. But to be fair to him he has been training really hard, he's the last one of the training pitch and he's been very professional. I was delighted to see him get a couple of goals."

McKeown is now re-focusing on more league action this weekend when his side host Kilbirnie Ladeside. He added: "It would be nice to keep the momentum going. Kilbirnie have a very strong squad, much like Troon, so a win again would be brilliant and would give us a bit of breathing space."
