LUGAR could have a say in who wins promotion from the Ayrshire District League this year.

That's according to Bunnets boss Graeme Neil after he watched his young guns blow Craigmark Burntonians away with a 5-1 victory on Saturday.

The match was one of only a handful to survive the weather conditions, and the Rosebank Park boss was glad his side finally got a run out notched the fine victory.

A happy Neil said: "It was a really good result.

"They are playing with a lot of confidence at the minute. They have had a long break so it is a credit to their fitness levels that they didn't look rusty."

Lugar currently lie fourth in the Ayrshire District League - a massive twenty points behind league leaders, Irvine Vics - but Neil hasn't ruled out his side playing a crucial role in deciding who goes up.

He added: "We just have to take it one game at a time. Our next game is always the biggest one for us. We have Whitletts this weekend and then a game against Irvine Vics the following week and I'm sure that Irvine will know they will be in a game against us."

Neil's young side have fired in 15 goals in their last three league matches - with a 2-0 win over high flying Vics, an 8-4 thriller against Annbank and Saturday's 5-1 victory.

Of his free scoring side, Neil added: "We get a lot of plaudits from almost every team we play against. You watch us and they do entertain. They are still learning the junior game though and we just need to keep focusing on results and I do think we could play a part in who goes up and who doesn't."

Lugar travel to take on Whitletts Victoria on Saturday with a 2pm kick off.
