WEST OF SCOTLAND CUP ROUND 2

CUMNOCK 3 ROSSVALE 1

CUMNOCK strolled in to the third round of the cup with a comfortable win at Rosebank Park.

John McKeown's side faced a potential banana skin but they came away with an easy win, dampened only by an ankle injury to Kieran Downs

Despite wild weather conditions, Nock produced some fine football.

The Rossvale side struggled to get to grips with the conditions underfoot and it was Cumnock who broke the deadlock after quarter of an hour.

Rhys Donaldson slid into a tackle on Ross McNeil but sent the Cumnock man sprawling to the deck and the referee was left with no choice but to award a penalty. Paul Burns stepped up and slammed the spot kick home.

Cumnock continued to press but it took until after the break to add a second. McNeil played the ball down the left hand side for Josh Watt who sent the ball to the back post and Montgomerie netted.

Keiren Wood then added a third on the hour mark to put Cumnock on easy street.

Cumnock had a throw in in the Rossvale half and McNeil raced away from his marker and crossed for Aiden Malone

Then from a throw in deep inside the Rossvale half, McNeil rounded a defender and crossed for Malone to head it goalwards but it was turned around the post.

From the corner kick the ball was swung to the front post. Keiran Wood rose highest to head towards goal. The ball skidded up off the surface and over the line.

With just five minutes remaining Keiran Downs was forced off with an ankle injury and having used all of their substitutions McKeown's side were down to ten men.

With virtually the last kick of the ball sub Chris McQuade bagged a consolation goal for Rossvale.
