AUCHINLECK Talbot got back to winning ways on Monday night with a 2-0 victory over Kirkintilloch Rob Roy.

The game was the second in a run of seven fixtures in the space of only 15 days, but Talbot showed no sign of giving up in their pursuit of the title as they bounced back from Saturday's draw at Arthurlie with a much-needed win.

Tommy Sloan's men got off to a great start at Duncansfield Park with a Connor Boyd double giving the Bot a commanding lead at half time.

There would be no further scoring in the second half but it was more than enough for Auchinleck to take all three points back home.

The result seen Talbot climb to fourth place in the West of Scotland Football League (WoSFL) Premier Division standings - eight points behind leaders Beith, having played two fewer matches.

Speaking to Talbot's on social media team after the match, assistant manager Allan McLuckie was pleased with the final outcome given the challenging days ahead.

He said: “The first half we dominated most of the game and scored two good goals.

“[In the] second half we fell off it a wee bit, a wee bit of tiredness crept in but I think we were comfortable winners in the end.

“We’re looking to keep players fresh for Wednesday night and with the number of games we are taking in.

“It’s not easy. We need to be up here at 6pm. The logistics, with guys leaving work, are not conducive for playing this level of football.”

Auchinleck are back in action on Wednesday, May 1, when they make the short journey to Blair Park to face Hurlford at 7pm.

Talbot's remaining fixtures are as follows.

  • Saturday, May 4: Pollok (h), KO 2pm
  • Monday, May 6: Darvel (a), KO 7.30pm
  • Wednesday, May 8: Largs Thistle (a), KO 7pm
  • Saturday, May 11: Benburb (a), KO 1pm
