AFTER a challenging pair of opening Division One games, Troon Ladies 1s welcomed Glasgow University 4s to Troon in the first round of the Women's West District Cup. With home advantage the Ladies 1s had an emphatic win, with the final score of 11-0.

Ladies 1s opened the scoring quickly, with a goal from Rosie Tudor after only three mins, slicing through the Glasgow defence with ease. Rosie also came away with man-of-the-match for her outstanding performance.

Patchy marking from the opposition, compounded by their use of a kicking back, allowed by half-time for a further three more balls finding the back of the net, from Katie Watson, Erin Bell and Kathryn Barr respectively.

Troon benefited from the use of rolling subs throughout the game, allowing them to keep their energy levels high. Without a keeper to maintain their back line, Troon found it all too easy to slip past the defence, and by keeping the pressure on the university side, the team pushed from a four-nil score at half time and carved through Glasgow’s ranks to hammer home a further seven goals, two from strong penalty corners. The scores on the doors at the end of the second half totalled another three for Rosie Tudor, two for Olivia Stark as well as a goal for Kirsty Pattison and a second for Kathryn Barr.

This match brings a much-needed confidence boost for the Ladies 1s squad, and shows a great deal of promise for the skills they can bring to the pitch. Don’t count this team as down and out just yet!

This coming Saturday sees Ladies 2s at home to Arran Ladies.
