PROMOTION hopefuls Craigmark Burntonians are desperate to have vital repairs carried out so they can resume midweek football.

And it looks like their appeals have been answered.

Three scheduled midweek matches have been called off owing to damage caused to the dressing room by burst pipes.

And this week they spoke out following speculation in some circles that they were exaggerating the situation.

The roof came down in the referee’s dressing room and there is also water in the lights.

The damage started in the neighbouring amateur team’s dressing room and has spread through to the junior team’s facilities.

Craigmark have been able to carry on playing during the weekend as they can change in the swimming pool, which closes at 3pm and a member of staff stays on to let them do that.

Secretary David Conway said: “The club felt that it was time to show the extent of the damage to our changing rooms as over a number of weeks now it had become apparent that the integrity of the committee and coaching staff at the club was being questioned in some quarters.

“We do hope these images will show the reasons for games being postponed at Station Park. The club are pleased to announce that repairs are now underway and things will soon be back to normal.

“Craigmark would like to apologise to all that have been inconvenienced by postponements and our thanks to local councillor Drew Filson and staff at the local swimming pool for all their help in this matter.”

Michael Hilarion, East Ayrshire Council Service Manager for Asset and Facilities, said: “In December 2017 the Council was advised of an issue of leaking pipes in the changing rooms which were rectified. Following a further leak in March 2018 it was considered appropriate to install trace heating which required the opening up of ceiling areas which was undertaken in April. Unfortunately the works were more extensive than anticipated, however all works are scheduled to be completed by 8 May.”

The club hope to be back in midweek action tomorrow (Wednesday) when they host Lugar Boswell Thistle in the league.
