Super League First Division

Kello Rovers 1

Largs Thistle 2

IT was one of these days at Nithside Park on Saturday when football was offered a sobering perspective.

Prior to kick-off both teams and both home and away supporters stood in complete silence in memory of the lives Tam McLeod and Ross Cook.

Tam McLeod was a lifelong and very dedicated supporter of Kello Rovers and was also an office bearer for a good number of years during a very highly successful period for the Rovers.

Young Ross Cook was a local footballer, formerly as a youth with Queen of the South and more recently as a player with Nithsdale Wanderers and Abertay University.

Both Tam and Ross will be very greatly missed by the Upper Nithsdale community.

With the wet weather continuing Nithside Park only just passed a pitch inspection and the game went ahead but played on a very heavy surface which undoubtedly contributed to the game overall being a poor spectacle.

Kello fans were delighted to see Graeme Ramage back in the centre of midfield following his most welcome return from Cambuslang Rangers.

However, Kello continued to be without Martin Shaw while regular Kieran Pagan was also missing.

The first half saw both teams trading blows but without sufficient creativity on display to score a goal.

In the second half Largs made the far better start and within just nine minutes the game was virtually over as Gary Fleming scored on 49 minutes.

Then, just five minutes later, Alex McWaters doubled the visitors’ lead.

Kello’s defence has been exceptionally good this season but the players will be disappointed in losing two rather soft goals in this fixture.

Thereafter, Largs were not particularly troubled until nine minutes from the end when Kello’s Liam Fleming halved the deficit for the Rovers.

Though the Rovers huffed and puffed in the remaining nine minutes they just could not squeeze anything out of this game.

Undoubtedly Kello are suffering from not being able to string a sequence of consecutive games together.

However, it is hoped that the weather will relent to let Kello get into a proper stride for the remaining fixtures which begin at home to Cambuslang Rangers this forthcoming Saturday.

There was a good attendance at the Largs game and so it is hoped that Kello supporters will be out in numbers at Nithside Park again on Saturday in time for a 2pm kick off.
